Who is O’Bannon M. Cook?
O’Bannon, a Tallahassee attorney, was the FSDA executive director from 1994 until his resignation in 2011.  It was under O’Bannon’s leadership that the FSDA migrated from into one of the leading securities industry lobbying groups in Florida.

Why did the FSDA establish a Scholarship?
The O’Bannon M. Cook FSDA Investment in the Future Scholarship Program was established to recognize and assist employees and immediate family members of employees, of FSDA members who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership skills and commitment to service, along with an interest in pursuing a career in the securities industry or business in general.

How many Scholarships are awarded each year?
Two

How much is the Scholarship?
$2,000 per year paid out in two equal $1,000.00 installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters immediately following issuance of the award.  Disbursements are not contemplated for summer sessions. 

What are the eligibility requirements?
  • U.S. Citizen and current resident
  • Full-time undergraduate enrollment in 2-year or 4-year university program
  • Employed by or immediate family member of FSDA member
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the securities industry or business in general
  • B Average (3.0/4.0)
  •  Leadership or active participation outside of school (e.g. civic, charitable or religious organization)
  • Must be seeking funds for undergraduate degree only

What type of expenses does The O’Bannon M. Cook FSDA Investment in the Future Scholarship Program cover?
Scholarship proceeds may be applied, at the discretion of the Award Recipient, toward payment of tuition, books, fees, room and board, or other educational expenses incurred by the Recipient at the Recipient’s academic institution.  No cash disbursement will be made.  All disbursements will be made by the FSDA directly to the Recipient’s designated educational institution.

What is the deadline for applying?
The application deadline is June 15th.

When will I be notified if I have been awarded an O’Bannon M. Cook FSDA Investment in the Future Scholarship?
Award recipients will be notified by July 30th.

Will it cost me anything to apply?
No, just your time.

How do I apply?
Download and complete the scholarship application form and provide all support documentation requested.  Mail everything to the address located at the bottom of the application.
